“It’s Obama’s fault.” This is what Trump said about the Russian hacking that he claims didn’t happen. Orwell called this Doublethink. The ability to hold two opposing thoughts in your head and believe both of them are true. It is really kind of scary that we have a president who embodies so many of Big Brother’s attributes. There are three parts to this that really worry me: Trump’s followers believe him, Trump’s surrogates lie without caring, and Trump is doing what he can to destroy the free media in our country. I keep believing that the truth will win out, but as Orwell said, “If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face–forever.”
I will hold out hope because as long as there are Souvlaki Huts in this world, there will be hope.
